Eden Walk was an out-of-date, open-air shopping centre in the heart of one of the country’s most successful retail destinations, Kingston-upon-Thames.

The new Eden Walk promised to deliver a total transformation of the town centre in an area where there is considerable hostility to new, high-density development.

The proposals for the new Eden Walk, in the heart of Kingston town centre, transformed the current shopping centre into a new landmark destination for the area, providing a new shopping destination, a dining terrace and homes alongside well-designed public spaces, a boutique cinema, a sky restaurant, and new pedestrian routes to other parts of the town centre.

BECG organised a range of consultation activities within the local area, centred on three stages of public exhibitions throughout the project’s development, alongside key meetings with local groups and regular updates to local authority members and their development team.

The consultation events had over 3,000 visitors. The public consultation focused on involving the entire borough, comprising exhibitions in three of the key surrounding areas alongside the main exhibition in New Malden, Surbiton and Chessington.

We also produced a project website, social media strategy, a promotional video using key stakeholders, as well as a range of print and digital marketing material.

Planning permission was granted in May 2016.
