With the government’s key priority being the jumpstarting of the UK economy, environmentalists fear that politicians will approve and possibly subsidise any economic activity, regardless of how many tonnes of CO2 are pumped into the atmosphere. But is this fear justified?

The prime minister and chancellor have been careful to point out the need for sustainable projects and, at least in words, the message of the importance of the environment and commitment to net zero appears to be getting through.

A green stimulus programme that creates more sustainable cities, investing in active transport and building the infrastructure for a better world is certainly within our grasp and a green recovery is possible, but it will take political will. Infrastructure Intelligence have partnered with BECG for a series of free virtual roundtables, webinars, and interviews this Autumn which will bring the infrastructure community together to share and learn from their experiences and to focus on what a successful future should look like for the sector
