Carrington Power Station

Stakeholder mapping identified the key members of the community

Alstom and DF are consortium partners for the construction of an 880MW gas fired power station in Carrington, Greater Mancheser.

The owners of the power station development, ESB, a state owned utility company based in Ireland, asked the consortium partners to handle community relations throughout the construction period. The power station would take about three years to build and was likely to cause some impact on the local community, particularly traffic on an already congested road.

It was essential to engage with the local community, provide up to date information on the development and deliver advance notice of any potential disruption. Stakeholder mapping identified the key members of the community.

As part of the communications programme the following was established:

BECG acted as a focal point for all issues associated with the construction of the power station. Any complaints were resolved quickly and relationships established and maintained with the local community and key stakeholders. The communications programme devised for Alstom has been recognised as best practice by Trafford Council and is now used as a benchmark for future developments in the area.
